Nine killed in Iraq bomb blast

  • A suicide bomber detonated a bomb, killing at least nine people and injuring 25 others at a police checkpoint west of Mosul, Iraq.

The checkpoint manned by military forces and police is located 55 kilometers west of Mosul and reports suggest that the gunmen even fired on the ambulance carrying wounded security forces.

Police mentioned that four women and four security officers were among the dead.

Iraq is becoming increasingly restive and violence is on the upswing in the region. Over 6,000 people have died this year and tensions between the Shiite majority and Sunni minority have grown.
