Nigeria’s president-elect Muhammadu Buhari has promised to crush the Boko Haram insurgency.
The 72-year-old former military dictator, who defeated Goodluck Jonathan in the presidential poll, said the Islamist militant group “will soon know the strength of our collective will”.
He said defeating the Boko Haram, which has killed thousands of people in the past six years, was a “tough and urgent job”.
Meanwhile, Jonathan’s public gesture of congratulating Buhari and conceding defeat has been praised by foreign leaders.
