Nigerian military kills top Boko Haram militant
September 18 , 2012
The spokesman for Islamist militant group Boko Haram has reportedly been killed by the Nigerian military, according to sources that have told the BBC.
Boko Haram has not yet confirmed whether Abu Qaqa has been killed.
A military spokesman said two militant suspects had been arrested, one of whom later died although his identity has not been revealed.
Nigeria’s military has in the past claimed to have arrested Abu Qaqa, the man who signs emails sent to the media on behalf of the group.
However, analysts say that Abu Qaqa is an alias so verifying his identity is not guaranteed.
Boko Haram has claimed responsibility for dozens of attacks across northern and central Nigeria, killing some 1,400 people.
