Nigerian army thwarts Boko Haram attack on Maiduguri city
February 2 , 2015
The Nigerian army repelled an attack by the Boko Haram on the north-eastern Maiduguri city, as per the media report.
The defense ministry claimed that the militant assault on Sunday morning was contained and the Islamist fighters have sustained heavy losses.
This is the second time in two weeks that the militants have attempted to capture the strategically important city. The Boko Haram has already captured Monguno town, some 80 miles from Maiduguri.
Meanwhile, the African Union has backed a plan to deploy a task force of 7,500 troops from West African countries to fight the militant group.
