Nigeria General Election 2019: Faceoff Between Muhammadu Buhari and Atiku Abubakar

  • Nigeria ultimately voted to elect its next President. 73 registered candidates are contesting the Presidential election. This close contest election is fought between 76-year old incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari and his ex-Vice President, 72-year old Atiku Abubakar. The election ultimately took place on Saturday after a one-week delay at the last minute due to logistical problems. The incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari’s party All Progressives Congress (APC) is trying to woo voters by saying that he used the first 4 years to do the foundational works and in the second term Buhari will take Nigeria to the next level. Buhari’s challenger Abubakar’s People's Democratic Party has said that the incumbent President has wasted the last 4 years and they are pledging “to get Nigeria working again”.
