Nigeria: 150 women and children rescued from Boko Haram militants

  • The Nigerian military has rescued around 150 women and children from the Boko Haram militant group, but some reports suggest that a group of women opened fire on the troops.

The rescue operation was launched in the Sambisa forest area, the military said.

The circumstances under which the soldiers were targeted are not clear. While some reports indicate that the Islamist fighters use women as shields, other sources have said that some women may have become indoctrinated after being in captivity for months.
