Mullah Akhtar Mansour, the new leader of the Afghan Taliban, has appealed for unity among fighters and said the group would continue fighting.
He was named the new leader after the death of former chief Mullah Omar was confirmed. However, some senior Taliban figures are believed to be unhappy at the decision.
In an audio message, Mullah Mansour said Taliban fighters must unite as any division “will please our enemies”. He added that the group remained committed to bringing Islamic rule to Afghanistan.
