New Shark Capital of the World: Florida

  • As per recent news updates, New Smyrna Beach situated in Volusia County of Florida is said to be the shark attack capital of the world. Reports state that during last weekend 3 people were reported to be bitten by sharks. Meanwhile, Emily Comfort, a 20 year old surfer was bitten by a shark on her left hand wrist on Saturday, August 6, 2019. Volusia County Beach Safety department later informed that she was taken to Halifax Medical Center of Daytona Beach with some injuries. Luckily, the injuries were minor and were not life-threatening. However, within the span of next half an hour, Riley Petrovich, a 21-year-old surfer was said to be nibbled by the shark on his right foot. But Petrovich denied going to the hospital. Director of the Florida Program, Gavin Naylor, engaged in Shark research along with his team mates at the Florida Museum of Natural History, confirmed to news agencies that there are a lot of bait fish that gather beyond the pier of New Smyrna Beach, and life-threatening dangerous sharks follow them.
