New Mexico radiation leak: $73-mn compensation deal reached
May 1 , 2015
The energy department of the US will put in $73 million in New Mexico’s infrastructure and road projects as compensation for last year’s nuclear dump waste radiation incident.
According to the agreement reached between the energy department and New Mexico, funds will be used to upgrade nuclear facilities and adjoining areas in the state.
A $5 million emergency operations center near the site of the radiation is among the projects.
The leak in February 2014 had exposed 22 workers at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant to radiation.
