New ceasefire attempt in eastern Ukraine
December 9 , 2014
Ukraine’s president Petro Poroshenko called for a “day of silence” in the conflict-struck eastern regions of the country in a bid to give fresh momentum to a ceasefire agreement that’s been repeatedly violated.
Reports indicated that both the separatists and government forces had stopped fighting.
Talks may take place between the rebels and Ukraine’s government, in Belarus.
Though both sides had agreed to a ceasefire in September, an estimated 1,000 people have died in the conflict since then, according to the United Nations.
