August 22 , 2019
As per recent news updates, single-use plastic has been banned by the Nepalese authorities in the Everest region. Meanwhile, this step is initiated by the government to cut down on the amount of waste which is left by the climbers. Additionally, this ban will come into effect latest by January 2020 in the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu municipality. However, a local official confirmed to the news agencies that this step will surely prove to be fruitful as it will keep the Everest region clean in the long run. Sadly, authorities stated that around 11 tons of garbage was cleared by them from Mount Everest. The authorities have announced that all plastic bottles used for drinking purposes, along with the plastic width of less than 30 microns, shall not be permitted in the region. Till now, penalty for the violators has not been announced, which government will soon declare before its final implementation.
