Nepal Government Temporarily Shuts Down Mountain Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

Mount Everest has ceased activity for the rest of the expedition season because of the Coronavirus pandemic. The authorities from Nepal announced that it would cancel all climbing permits from March 14 until April 30. The decision will affect the tourism sector in the country as Nepal earns $4 Mn by issuing Everest climbing permits every year. Further, it has advised foreigners who could not avoid coming to the city to stay quarantined for 14 days. The temporary ban on the climb will also affect the livelihood of the sherpas.
