National Front Leader Misses Deadline to Repay EU Funds

  • France's far-right leader Marine Le Pen was given a deadline to return over €300,000 (£257,000; $321,000), but she has missed it. She said that she misspent the EU fund. Reports from the parliament mentions that the funds were wrongly used by her to pay an aide at the National Front's headquarters in Paris.

In response to this, Le Pen said that she has become the victim of a politically motivated conflict.

The parliament says that if she fails to repay the money, half her salary as an MEP will be retained and she will also not be provided other allowances.
