Namibia votes to choose president and parliament

  • Namibians are voting to choose their new president and parliament in Africa's first electronic poll.

The reigning South West Africa People's Organisation (Swapo) is expected to emerge winner and Prime Minister Hage Geingob is likely to become president, media reports said.

The electronic voting machines are of Indian make. The opposition had expressed concern over rigging in absence of a paper trail, but the high court dismissed the case.

Namibia has around 1.2 million eligible voters.
