Myanmar student protest: Several arrested after police crackdown
March 11 , 2015
Dozens of people have been arrested as police disrupted a student protest in Myanmar.
The students were demonstrating against an education bill in Letpadan town as part of a protest march from Mandalay to Yangon, when the police intervened. According to media reports, some protesters were beaten up.
Students say the bill will restrict academic freedom, and were involved in talks with government officials over the bill. With the police crackdown, the possibility of negotiations seems bleak.
