Myanmar polls: Aung San Suu Kyi's NLD wins two-third majority

  • Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy (NLD) has won a landslide victory in the Myanmar elections.

With over 80 per cent of the contested seats declared, the NLD has more than the required two-thirds to choose the president.

However, the military, which automatically holds one-fourth of the seats, remains very influential. The Constitution bars Suu Kyi from becoming president herself.

The NLD has won at least 369 of the 664 seats in the two houses of parliament, giving it a two-thirds majority from the contested seats.
