Myanmar has blocked all UN aid to its civilians at the heart of the Rohingya Crisis

  • Amidst Rohingya Crisis, Myanmar has blocked all aid provided by the United Nations to the deprived civilians. All United Nations aid agencies have been effectively blocked by Myanmar for providing vital supplies of food, water and medicines to thousands of civilians caught up in bloody campaign following attacks on government forces. As per Pierre Person, the spokesperson for the UN office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) in Myanmar, Humanitarian Organizations are “deeply concerned about the fate of thousands of people affected by the ongoing violence” in northern Rakhine. In a recent bout of violence, military has been accused of horrible atrocities against the persecuted Muslim Rohingya Minority. Atleast 87,000 Rohingya Muslim migrants arrived in Bangladesh from Myanmar last week. As per one of the reports, “the army has declared a war against 'terrorism', encircling the township of Maungdaw, Buthidaung and Rathidaung, home to around 800,000 people, and imposed a curfew from dawn to dusk.”
