Muslim Brotherhood's political wing dissolved

  • The banned Muslim Brotherhood’s political wing, the Freedom and Justice party, has been dissolved by a court in Egypt.

The Muslim Brotherhood was banned last year, but the ban left the door open for it to contest parliamentary polls. However, after the latest court order, no form of participation in the country’s electoral politics is available to the Islamist movement.

Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, the Egyptian president, has led a government crackdown on the Muslim Brotherhood.
