Mubarak to be on house arrest
August 22 , 2013
Hosni Mubarak is being released from prison but will be put under house arrest. According to Prime Minister, Hazem el-Beblawi, this is one of the emergency measures put in place.
The announcement came a few hours after Mubarak was ordered to be released. His release could increase the tension in Egypt and the decision to put him under house arrest appears to be designed in order to control the criticism over his release and to also ensure that he appears in court for a trial next week.
It is unclear as to where Mubarak will be held- probably at his residence or at a hospital considering his health.
Mubarak's lawyers appealed in one of his corruption cases after which he was ordered to be released. The former president is facing investigation into at least two other cases of corruption.
