Moldova Election Result: No Party Secures Absolute Majority

  • Moldova, a small landlocked country between Romania and Ukraine, is currently in a limbo between pro-Western and pro-Russian forces as no political party secured a majority. The incumbent, pro-Western, Democratic Party received just 24.1 percent, securing a distant third position. The pro-European ACUM group secured 25.9 percent votes. However, the current opposition Socialist Party in Moldova believes in having closer ties with Russia. It has received 31.5 percent votes. The corruption-tainted Democratic Party has definitely been pushed to the 3rd spot. The ACUM bloc rose to the second position as they fought on the agenda of fighting corruption.
