Missing students: ex-mayor's wife charged in Mexico
January 6 , 2015
Maria de los Angeles Pineda, the wife of the former mayor of Mexico’s Iguala town -- where 43 students went missing in September -- has been charged with money laundering and organized crime.
She was taken to a high security prison, awaiting trial.
According to prosecutors, the police took away the protesting students and gave them to a drug gang. The gang then allegedly killed the students and burnt their bodies. However, so far only one student’s remains have been identified.
Pineda had contacts in the drug gang, prosecutors say.
