Misrata militia, Islamist fighters seize Tripoli airport
August 24 , 2014
Libya’s beleaguered parliament has labeled the alliance of militias that captured the international airport in Tripoli as terrorists, adding that they were legitimate targets for the country’s military.
Islamist fighters and militiamen from Misrata city are believed to be part of the alliance that seized the airport after weeks of fighting in the capital. A militia spokesperson claimed that the new parliament was not legitimate.
The airport was earlier in control of a rival militia from Zintan city that had projected itself as an anti-Islamist front.
