Military dog captured by Taliban

  • The first canine POW appears to have been captured by the militants during a battle in Afghanistan with American forces.

Reports suggest that the military service dog probably is owned by another country, perhaps Britain.

"I don't remember seeing a dog used as a hostage," the SITE Intelligence Group founder said. The animal is a Belgian Malinois, which is a special breed made to sniff out explosives during raids. It has been confirmed that the dog was missing during the operation in December.
