Militants, Egyptian army clash in North Sinai, 100 dead

At least 100 militants and 17 soldiers were killed in simultaneous attacks on military checkpoints in North Sinai. As per media reports, it is one of the deadliest fighting in years in the restive province and involved F-16 jets and Apache helicopters. ISIS’ Egyptian affiliate claimed responsibility for the attack. The group said that it had carried out three suicide bombings and had attacked around 15 security checkpoints. On Wednesday, an army spokesperson said that the situation in North Sinai was under control.
