Migration to EU: Hungary suspends asylum rule
June 24 , 2015
Hungary has suspended an EU asylum rule which makes it obligatory for the country to take back asylum seekers who first entered Hungary but then traveled to other countries.
A spokesperson for the Hungarian government said that the decision was taken because illegal immigration had overburdened the country.
The decision comes days after the government said that it would erect a border wall to prevent migrants from crossing into Hungary.
Hungary says that it is responding to the “escalated situation” of increased migration.
