Migrant boat was deliberately sunk, reports claim
September 16 , 2014
Around 500 migrants were feared dead after human traffickers deliberately sunk the boat that was taking them from Egypt to Malta, according to an intergovernmental group.
The report was based on information given by two survivors, the group said. The boat had reportedly left Egypt on September 6, media reports said.
If the survivors’ account is valid, then the death toll of migrants in the Mediterranean trying to cross over to Europe will rise to 2,900 this year.
