Migrant boat capsizes off the Libyan coast
May 1 , 2016
The International Organization for Migration has reported eighty-four migrants to be missing as the dinghy on which they were traveling capsized off the Libyan coast. The Italian coast guard got a satellite phone call and merchant ships were diverted to rescue probable survivors and bring them all to Italy. There are no details of the nationalities of the migrants who were brought to the island of Lampedusa. Italy has already received around 27000 refugees and most of them setting out from Libya. Almost 800 migrants are feared to have drowned in the Mediterranean this year alone.
