Mexico's Foreign Ministry says Cars of Spanish Diplomats Detained by Bolivia at Mexican Embassy of La Paz

  • In a statement, Mexico’s foreign ministry has said that the Bolivian police had impeded the departure of two Spanish diplomats from the Mexican ambassador’s residence by detaining their cars on Friday. The Spanish diplomats were visiting the Mexican ambassador in La Paz. The detention of the Spanish officials’ cars is believed to be an aftereffect of the souring relationship between the Mexican government and the Interim Bolivian President Jeanine Añez led conservative government. The relation between the two countries soured after Mexico granted asylum to nine people including the long-serving socialist leader of Bolivia Evo Morales’ former senior aide Juan Ramon Quintana in the Mexican embassy.
