Mexico: Dozens killed after police target notorious drug cartel
May 23 , 2015
A gun battle between the police and suspected criminal gang members has killed at least 44 people in western Mexico.
Most of those killed in the police operation near Tanhuato town are suspected to be members of a drug cartel called Jalisco New Generation.
Two police officers were killed in a shootout that occurred near the Michoacan-Jalisco border, media reports said.
The Jalisco cartel has carried out some daring attacks on security personnel in recent months.
