Mexican Presidential Candidate, Lopez Obrador, Demands Recount
July 4 , 2012
Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, the projected runner-up in Mexico’s presidential poll held this Sunday, has confirmed that he will seek a total recount of the ballots cast. The presidential candidate was reacting to the official preliminary count which gave PRI candidate Enrique Pena Nieto victory by a margin of over six points. Lopez Obrador, the PRD candidate, suggested that Pena Nieto may have broken electoral disciplines and confirmed that he had evidence of irregularities. He said that he would ask for a complete recount in keeping with the law. Such a recount would do the country and democracy good, he remarked. Thousands had taken to the streets of Mexico City to protest against Pena Nieto.
