Merkel confronts Obama about phone tapping

  • German Chancellor Angela Merkel learned that US intelligence might have tapped her mobile phone.

She complained to President Obama and said this would be "a serious breach of trust" if proven true. Reports suggest that Obama assured Merkel that his country is not monitoring her conversations but he didn't specify as to whether or not the US has done this in the past.

The German government said it received this information from US intelligence.

The chancellor made it clear in her phone call to Obama that she thinks such practices are "completely unacceptable."
