Mayor of Ukraine's city clings to life
April 29 , 2014
Mayor of the Eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv, Gennady Kernes, has been shot and doctors are currently attempting to save his life.
The circumstances related to the attack are unclear but a report suggests that he was swimming in a local spring at the time.
The BBC notes that Kernes was an ally of ousted president Viktor Yanukovych and he briefly fled the country after Yanukovych did. Moreover, Kernes is Jewish and was targeted in the anti-Semitic hate speech during his election.
