Mass shooting kills 44 in Nigeria

  • Suspected Islamic militants are said to be responsible for shooting 44 people praying at a mosque in Nigeria. At the same time, another attack killed 12 more civilians nearby.

The latest attacks are being blamed on the radical Boko Haram group, which is looking to impose Islamic law and to oust the government by posing a great security threat.

It is not yet known as to why this particular mosque in northern Nigeria had been targeted but the radical group has in the past attacked mosques where the clerics speak against religious extremism. Boko Haram group has also attacked schoolchildren, Christians as well as government and military targets.

The leader of the group, Abubakar Shekau continues to threaten by saying that the group is now powerful enough to be able to target the United States.
