Mass Shooting in Dayton, Ohio, Kills 9 and Leaves 26 Others Injured

  • 9 persons have been killed and 26 others injured in a mass shooting in Ohio’s Dayton (a popular nightclub district). The incident took place just 13 hours after the El Paso mass shooting incident in Texas. The lone suspect reportedly used a .223 high-capacity assault rifle and was able to fire for less than a minute before being neutralized by the Dayton Police personnel present in the spot. Dayton Deputy Director and Assistant Chief of Police Lt. Col. Matt Carper told media that the incident took place at 1 am local time (05:00 GMT) on East Fifth Street. Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley said that thousands of lives could have been lost if police was not present at the spot. Whaley also said: “The question has to be raised, why does Dayton have to be the 250th mass shooting this year?”
