Mall terror threat: US Security Chief asks shoppers to remain vigilant

  • Jeh Johnson, the US homeland security chief, has urged people to exercise caution after a Somali militant group issued a terror threat to prominent shopping centers.

The al-Shabab group has urged its followers to target shopping centers and malls in the US, UK and Canada, in a video. Johnson said he took the terror threat seriously.

Al-Shabab was behind the attack on the Nairobi shopping mall in 2013 that left 67 people dead in Kenya.

The US security chief said that he was, however, not telling people to avoid the malls listed by the militant group.
