Mali: Red Cross employee killed in militant attack

  • Suspected militants targeted an aid vehicle in Mali, killing a Red Cross worker and injuring another.

The vehicle was going from Gao to Niger’s Niamey town when it was fired upon.

The aid agency said that it was “profoundly dismayed” by the shooting. Mujao, an Islamist militant group, has reportedly claimed responsibility for the attack.

A senior member of the Red Cross in north and west Africa said that the agency was “concerned about the rise in violence against humanitarian workers”.
