Mali: 12 killed as Islamist gunmen attack border town

  • Twelve people were killed after suspected Islamist fighters targeted a town in Mali near the border with Mauritania, reports said.

Nine attackers were among those killed, the defense ministry said. The gunmen are believed to be Islamist fighters linked to the Peuhl ethnic group.

The attack on Nara, around 19 miles from the border, comes just a week after a rebel alliance and the government signed a peace deal.

The army later carried out house-to-house search operations in Nara.
