The Parliament of Maldives has approved the anti-defection bill despite the boycott by opposition MPs. According to the bill, an MP would be expelled from his seat if he is elected on political party tickets and leaves his party or switches the party. Although the opposition continued to boycott the sittings, the bill was passed with 35 votes. As per reports, this bill is going to give power to the election commission to unseat the MPs in case of defection.
