Lyon-Turin rail project: EU starts investigation into fraud allegation

  • The European Union (EU) has launched a probe into the Lyon-Turin rail project following allegations of misspending by Green MEPs (Member of the European Parliament).

Olaf, the anti-fraud office of the EU, said that the investigation would examine if “any fraud or irregularity” took place that could “prejudice the EU's financial interests”.

According to a 2012 estimate by the French Court of Auditors, the total cost of the high-speed train project would rise to $29 billion.

Green MEPs allege that the project is a waste of public money.
