Lebanon prepares for Wissam al-Hassan funeral

  • Lebanese opposition leader Saad Hariri has urged all citizens to attend a funeral for security chief Wissam al-Hassan, who was killed by a car bomb on Friday.

    "Every one of you is personally invited," said Hariri, a former prime minister and leading anti-Syrian politician.

    Hariri has blamed Damascus for the attack, which left three people dead and injured dozens others.

    In the wake of the attack, there have been numerous anti-Syrian protest in several parts of Lebanon.

    Hassan, 47, headed the intelligence wing of Lebanon's internal security forces.

    Hariri said the funeral should be attended by "all of Lebanon, which Wissam al-Hassan protected from the plots of (Syrian President) Bashar al-Assad".

    A day of national mourning was held on Saturday.
