Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic: Croatia's first female president

  • Kolinda Grabar-Kitarovic, a center-right candidate, has won the Croatian presidential polls by the slimmest of margins, becoming the country’s first female president, according to media reports.

With most of the ballots counted, she got 50.5% of the vote, just ahead of incumbent Ivo Josipovic who bagged 49.5%.

Conceding defeat, Josipovic, 57, who was president since 2010, congratulated Grabar-Kitarovic, 46, a former foreign minister.

Analysts believe that the poll results are an indication of more right-wing economic policies in future.
