Key rebel leader resigns in east Ukraine, military plane shot down
August 8 , 2014
Alexander Borodai, a key rebel leader and self-styled prime minister of the Donetsk People's Republic, has stepped down from his post, as per media reports.
Borodai, a Russian citizen, did not give any clear reasons for the decision.
The resignation comes amid rapid advances by Ukraine’s military towards Donetsk city, which is controlled by pro-Russian fighters and a Russian troop build-up by the border.
As shelling in the area continues, the rebels shot down a military plane belonging to Ukraine forces close to the town of Yenakievo, reports said.
