Key intellectuals behind Hong Kong protests to surrender to police

  • Three intellectuals from Hong Kong who played a key role in starting the pro-democracy protest movement have revealed on Tuesday, December 2, that they will surrender to the police, media reports say.

Benny Tai, a professor at University of Hong Kong; Chan Kin-man, a sociologist; and Chu Yiu-ming, addressing a media conference, said they planned to turn themselves in and called for an end to further violence.

Tai said their call to retreat was “out of love” for the young occupy protesters.
