Kenyan Supreme Court Declares Kenyatta's Victory Void, Orders Fresh Vote
September 2 , 2017
Supreme Court of Kenya has nullified the victory of Uhuru Kenyatta as the new President of the country and ordered to hold a fresh election in coming 60 days. The six-judge bench ruled (4-2) in favor of veteran opposition leader Raila Odinga, who filed the petition just after the declaration of presidential election result alleging widespread hacking and manipulation of the electronic voting machines. The judges observed that the election commission failed to conduct the Kenyan presidential election as per the constitution. In a televised address, Kenyatta has accepted the Supreme Court ruling and called for maintenance of peace.
