Kate Middleton hoax call nurse found dead

  • A nurse at a London hospital who answered a hoax call about Kate Middleton was found dead on Friday.

In a statement, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge said they were "deeply saddened" by the death of the nurse, named as Jacintha Saldanha.

Meanwhile, the King Edward VII hospital paid tribute to "a first class nurse who cared diligently for hundreds of patients".

Details of the duchess’ pregnancy and medical condition were revealed to Australian DJs Mel Greig and Michael Christian, from Sydney radio station 2Day FM, when they posed as the Queen and Prince Charles during a call early on Tuesday morning.

The pair will not return to their show until further notice out of respect for Saldanha.

The duchess was admitted on Monday for acute morning sickness and was discharged on Thursday.

Saldanha, a duty nurse who was married with two children, answered the telephone as it was 5:30 pm GMT and there was no receptionist on duty.

Police officers were called at 9:35 am GMT on Friday after reports of a woman found unconscious at an address in central London. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police are not treating her death as suspicious.
