Karachi factory fire death toll rises
September 13 , 2012
At least 289 people have been killed in a fire at a garment factory in the Pakistani city of Karachi.
Rescuers efforts were still underway on Wednesday to reach the dead and wounded inside, more than 24 hours after the inferno began.
Hundreds of people were left trapped inside the Ali Enterprises factory, unable to escape due to the building’s metal grille windows and lack of fire exits. Several workers were seen jumping from the upper floors.
Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident, believed to have been caused by a faulty generator.
