Kangaroos use their tails in a surprising way
July 3 , 2014
The largest of the kangaroo species called Red kangaroos reportedly use their tails like a fifth leg. National Geographic reports that scientists have never seen this trait in the animal kingdom before.
"Their tails have more than 20 vertebrae, taking on the role of our foot, calf, and thigh bones," one of them said.
Experts mentioned that the tail also facilitates more efficiency as compared to the human gait. "It's a real wonder of nature, how these kangaroos move about and what they are able to do," a researcher said.
