Jordan ends death penalty moratorium
December 21 , 2014
Jordan has ended an eight-year moratorium on the death penalty, as per media reports. The county recently executed 11 criminals convicted on murder charges in 2005-06. Since 2006 around 122 people have been sentenced to death in the country. The Interior minister Hussein Majali had recently said that there has been a major debate on the death penalty and Jordan might soon end the moratorium. The minister said the public believes the spurt in crimes across the country is due to the non-application of death penalty.
