John Kerry negotiates with Iran over its nuclear programme
November 24 , 2013
The Foreign Ministers of the five permanent members of the UN Security Council and Germany, known as P5+1, are meeting in Geneva with the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif to determine the future of UN sanctions against Iran. The determined pursuit of a nuclear program by Iran had resulted in UN sanctions being imposed on the country in 2006.
US Secretary of State John Kerry, Britain's Foreign Secretary William Hague, French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, Germany's Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle, and EU Foreign Policy Chief Catherine Ashton are in Geneva to discuss a possible deal with Iran that depends on Iran making significant concessions and agreeing to suspend its uranium enrichment programme. Early reports on the diplomatic talks suggested there was progress but some way to go as yet before any satisfactory conclusion could be reached.
