Jet Airways plane dropped 5,000 feet over Turkey

  • Aviation authorities in India are investigating reports that an aircraft on its way to Brussels dropped 5,000 feet all of a sudden, according to media reports.

The Jet Airways plane was flying over Ankara at the time, and worried air control officials in Turkey alerted the co-pilot. Media reports suggested that while the pilot was taking a nap “as per rules,” the co-pilot was “busy on her tablet.”

India’s Director General of Civil Aviation has described this as a “serious incident.” Jet Airways said in a statement that “safety is of paramount importance” to the airlines.
